Nathan Evans Fox — Heirloom

Pick of the Day今日精選

Nathan Evans Fox Heirloom

Nathan Evans Fox grew up in rural North Carolina, trained as a hospital chaplain, and then, after his father died and his own child was born, walked away from the work to make music full-time. Heirloom is the record that came out of that doorway. The banjo does most of the talking, but never as a costume: he bows it, mutes it, plays it percussively, using it to carry songs about shuttered mills, a faith coming apart at the seams, and the open question of whether you are obliged to hand your family's shame down to the next generation. He calls the result "comrade country," and the phrase fits — a music that refuses both the impulse to climb above your raising and the demand to be ashamed of it. Raw, sharply written, and the most emotionally honest Americana I've heard this year. 北卡鄉下長大,讀過神學院,當過醫院神職。父親過世、自己當了爸爸之後,他辭掉那份工,全職做音樂。這張就是從那道門裡走出來的。
