Amelia Baker has spent a decade making unadorned folk music under this name, much of it shaped by long stretches in Ireland, and this is the widest-sounding thing she has done. The method that got her there was subtraction. Melodies that used to be carried by fiddle are now carried by an e-bow, with the fiddle pushed back into texture, and the difference is startling: sustained tone where there used to be articulation. The supporting cast reads like a clerical error. Amy Sanchez, who plays brass for Kamasi Washington, is here. So is Dylan Desmond, the bassist from the doom band Bell Witch, sitting behind a synthesiser. So is Greg Cohen, who has played double bass for Tom Waits and John Zorn. Baker's own definition of heaviness — quiet rather than loud, restraint rather than volume — is what keeps all of them in the same room. Three studio albums, in 2003, 2005 and now, and all three are self-titled. The Greensboro quartet has never named anything, which is either a bit or a form of exhaustion, and after the story behind this one I lean toward the second. Basic tracks were cut in 2009. The band scattered, the drives failed one by one, and the masters were written off as unrecoverable until someone pulled the data back in 2015, nearly intact. Guitars and vocals were then added remotely, city by city, over another decade. Seventeen years between tracking and release, and what arrives is not an artefact. "Bronco Town, USA" takes nearly six minutes to grow out of a thick psych-fuzz riff; "Floater" is three minutes of MC5 belligerence; "Bayonet" closes at eight and a half. Eight songs, forty-one minutes, no dust on any of it. 北卡 Greensboro 的四人組，2002 年夏天成立。這張的基礎音軌是 2009 年錄完的。

The axis of this programme is a twenty-minute song almost nobody programmes. Einsamkeit, D620, runs six sections and twenty minutes and forty seconds, too long for a recital slot and too unaccommodating for a mixed evening, and Fu has put it in the dead centre of the record and built outward from it: the Allegretto D915 and the D958 sonata before, two songs from Schwanengesang around it, the Hungarian Melody D817 as an exit. Fu's argument for including the lieder at all is that a Schubert who is not also a setter of words is a Schubert you have not met; he describes the composer as someone addressing one listener rather than a hall of five hundred. Dvořák borrowed and did not say from whom. Carlos Simon's Four Black American Dances, receiving its first commercial recording here, says it out loud and then plays it: a ring shout, a waltz, a tap number, a holy dance, fourteen and a half minutes covering slavery through Reconstruction to Jim Crow. The percussion writing in the opening Ring Shout calls for a large wooden stick struck against a wooden floorboard, with players clapping — an instruction that is historical rather than decorative, since the ring shout was made by people who had the floor and their hands and nothing else. Programmed ahead of the New World Symphony, taped live at Heinz Hall in February 2025, it turns the more famous piece into the second item on its own record. 2025 年 2 月匹茲堡 Heinz Hall 的實況，Reference Recordings「Pittsburgh Live!」系列第十七張。

The record ends outside. "别", the five-minute instrumental outro, moves from a light triple metre into massed strings and a guitar solo and then settles into street noise — traffic, voices, the ordinary racket of a Beijing block — and holds there until the fade. Thirteen years after his debut, Song has written, arranged and produced everything but one song, and staffed the sessions with Chinese jazz players: Wen Zhiyong on trumpet, Xia Jia on piano, Gao Taihang on saxophone. The material was written between 2017 and 2023. The sleeve photograph, in black and white, is the backside of the house cat he has had for thirteen years. 距離《安和橋北》十三年。十一首裡除了〈不陌生的人〉出自堯十三，其餘詞曲編製都是他一個人。

Three guest songwriters — Akino Arai, Yukari Yamazaki of Kūki Kōdan, Risa Nakagawa — each wrote a song and gave it to a duo that has never had a singer. Harp and guitar, together since 2001, and this anniversary record landed on the exact date, twenty-five years on, and is the first time they have used the band name as an album title. "head fish walk", from their debut, comes back in a band arrangement with double bass and drums. 豎琴加吉他的二重奏，2001 年結成。這張紀念盤發在結成紀念日 7 月 15 日當天，而且是二十五年來第一次拿團名當專輯名。

The three of them live in three different prefectures — Nagano, Tokyo, Okinawa — and the way they made a first album was to move back into one room. Ten days over the New Year, shut in a studio in Matsumoto, living there while recording, building the thing out of repeated improvisation with film scores and dub somewhere in the back of it. Ten tracks. "蛙" lasts one minute fifty-one; "old tech" runs six forty-eight. They play the rookie stage at Fuji Rock on the twenty-fifth. 2023 年在長野縣松本市結成的三人組：牧野拓夢、伊波朗生、藤本壯志。現在三個人分住長野、東京、沖繩。

Fifteen years on, the Shears twins are still using the genre name they invented for themselves, and they are back on the label they started with. Fourteen tracks, written, produced and recorded by the two of them in Los Angeles. The vinyl and CD of a record called Bootleg arrive on the twenty-third of October. 橙縣的雙胞胎 Wyatt 與 Fletcher Shears 回到 Epitaph，十四首，詞曲製作錄音全部兩個人在洛杉磯自己來。曲名還是那個調調：〈Ugly〉〈Pin Drop〉〈5 Mile Ponytail〉〈The Kockroach〉〈Hansel and Gretel〉。
