Nate Wooley recorded two deaths into one album. The first was Ron Miles, the trumpeter and mentor who, Wooley writes, "saved my life as a young man"; when Miles died suddenly in 2019, Wooley wept openly on the Q train and was "a zombie for months." The four central pieces here grow out of licks and folk tunes he heard Miles play. Then, after the sessions, pedal steel player Susan Alcorn died too, and the band's response was to stop rehearsing, invite her friends to sing, and let themselves fall into the weightless chasm she left. This is most likely the last Columbia Icefield record. It treats absence not as a hole but as a thing with density and gravity — the weight of loss received, against every instinct, as a gift. Most piano trios are led from the keys. The Seoul drummer Soojin Suh leads this one from behind the kit, and rebuilds the form from that seat. Where her last album, Colorist, rethought melody, this one rethinks the division of labor: ride cymbal, snare, and bass drum keep trading jobs, continuously reassigning who states time and who breaks it — a radical extension of the linear playing Elvin Jones and Tony Williams began. It was assembled patiently, across four sessions spread over four years with her Coloris Trio, the music emerging through deep collective listening rather than fixed structure. The emotional anchor is "There Is No Evil in Pain," written by bassist Hoo Kim for Chick Corea after his death. Rhythm here isn't the frame around the composition; it is the composition, and the trio never sits still long enough to be pinned.

Svoboda, a Finnish-Australian double bassist and vocalist, built her solo sound out of bass, voice, and electronics — and then set a trap for herself. She hired a second singer, a second bassist, and an electronics player to double, amplify, and warp that sound, which raised a genuinely unsettling question of identity: where does Svoboda end and the collaborators begin? The record never answers, and that's the point. Avant-garde and folk sit here without a visible seam; conflict and resolution refuse to arrive in order. Across sixteen short tracks the music runs downstream from a river's "childhood" — its source — toward something barely recognizable, on Lawrence English's Room40, where water is treated less as a metaphor than as a structure. Bartosz Kruczyński came up alongside the 2010s lo-fi house boom, and in the decade since he has grown steadily more stoic. Everlasting Flame leaves the club structure behind almost entirely, settling into the space between ambient abstraction and rhythm: cold, shimmering atmospheres over submerged low end, a dub-inflected haze pierced now and then by a shard of raw high frequency or a distant vocal fragment. The trick is the contrast — brooding pads set against needle-fine detail, so the thing feels fragile and forceful at once, with a persistent longing running underneath. It lingers in the in-between, where rhythm dissolves into atmosphere and the mood, not the beat, takes the wheel. Infra grew up near Melrose, in the Scottish Borders, and named this six-track EP after the town's Old Welsh name, Mailros. That etymological detour is the whole mood: breathy, processed vocals over dreamy guitars, drones, and field recordings, written in what the artist calls an in-between place, dwelling in vulnerability and intimacy. It plays as a companion to labelmate McGregor's Upon Ancient Mineral — both of them indebted to a stony, weathered biome, both letting weightless fretwork and seraphic vocals rub against something murkier underneath. There is nothing showy here, and nothing wasted; it asks for the hour just before the light comes up, and rewards it. A Lithuanian composer trained at Copenhagen's Rhythmic Music Conservatory, Preisaitė makes her first solo record under her own name a deliberately genre-blurring thing. Composed pop vignettes sit beside sustained drones, FX manipulation, and guttural bursts of noise; sparse piano and cut-and-paste, trip-hop-leaning rhythms gel with crowd noise and close-mic'd intimacy. Her background is writing for large ensembles, and it shows in how the density is managed — the human voice is never far from the surface, anchoring even the most concrète collage. Strings, brass, accordion, and guitar drift in and out as a cast of players lament fantasy, absurdity, and relationships. It moves from delicate acoustic folk motifs to wide-eyed glitch electronics without apology, an unorthodox and welcome addition to what has quietly become one of the strongest scenes in Europe. 立陶宛人，哥本哈根節奏音樂學院畢業，這是她頭一張署自己本名的專輯。
