Six records that all seem to be writing home from somewhere else

Chanel Beads — Your Day Will Come
01 Pick of the Day 今日精選

Chanel Beads Your Day Will Come

Shane Lavers gave his second album the same title as his 2024 debut, which began as a joke about the way music gets parceled into tidy chapters and ended as something closer to a koan. Will your day come? What will it feel like? The record was made in a small Brooklyn room with the speakers close enough to his face that he could feel the air leave the kick drum. There are no demos — the rule is to start recording before the song exists and let the song grow into the take. The result keeps its seams showing: androgynous vocals, synthetic and acoustic textures smeared together, intimacy that feels one breath from collapse. Nihilism and love, he says, ought to cancel each other out, and don't. Today's most fragile thing, and the one to hear first.

Jonathan Kuo — Java Dreams: Godowsky & Stravinsky

Jonathan Kuo Java Dreams: Godowsky & Stravinsky

Edward Gardner / London Philharmonic Orchestra — Strauss: An Alpine Symphony & Metamorphosen

Edward Gardner / London Philharmonic Orchestra Strauss: An Alpine Symphony & Metamorphosen

Jader Bignamini / Detroit Symphony Orchestra — Orff: Carmina Burana

Jader Bignamini / Detroit Symphony Orchestra Orff: Carmina Burana

Ning Feng / Kammerakademie Potsdam — Mozart: Complete Violin Concertos

Ning Feng / Kammerakademie Potsdam Mozart: Complete Violin Concertos
