The first American orchestra to record the complete Ring in concert — not at the Met or Seattle Opera, where the cycles came out of staged productions, but live in their own Meyerson Symphony Center, spread across four seasons and crowned by a full cycle in October 2024. The timing is canny: Dallas Symphony's 125th birthday, exactly 150 years after Bayreuth first ran the cycle whole in 1876. Luisi tells Apple Music Classical that conducting the Ring "changes you as a person," which is the kind of thing conductors say, but his account here is unusually unhurried for a live recording — the music is given room to be itself instead of being shoved at the next downbeat. "Chamber-folk" is the polite description on the press release; what the eight pieces here actually do is sit in the corner of a room where the lights aren't quite on. Orcutt's guitar — the one that always sounds like it's about to break — leans against Fratti's cello and her voice, which has spent the last few years migrating from the chamber side toward something closer to art-pop. They mailed files between Mexico City and San Francisco for the better part of a year. The result is more careful than any room-and-mic duet would have produced: less "two people meeting," more "two people standing inside the same unfinished sentence." The follow-up to the Grammy-nominated debut takes its instructions from Sonia Sanchez ("The rain exploding / in the air is love") and acts on them. Meshell Ndegeocello conducts; Justin Brown produces; the band is one of those quietly outrageous lineups — Ambrose Akinmusire, Josh Johnson, Brandee Younger, Burniss Travis — that on paper looks like a spiritual-jazz reading list but in practice never lets the playing tip into reverence. Monet's voice does the actual work: she reads "hollyweird" through the smoke of the 2025 LA fires; she lets Mick Jenkins and Vic Mensa take a verse in "melting clocks" without yielding the room. Michael Hurley's death sent Alela Diane back to her own first principles. Over ten days in August 2025 she put a band in the attic of her 1892 Portland house and tracked fifteen songs live, no click, no overdubs, no rescue. The risk of writing that scene — cat on the preamp, sun through the skylights — is sentimentality, and Diane is fully aware of it. What saves the record is that none of the songs are about the setting; they're about time, and the setting is just where time happened to slow down enough to record. "In My Own Time," "Endless Waltz," "Spring Is A Fine Time" — the titles are the thesis. Since To Be Still (2009), her records have been written from inside her own head; this is the first one in a long time written from inside a room with other people breathing. Fifty years almost to the day since Sheffield Students Union Refectory, Cabaret Voltaire's surviving founders — Stephen Mallinder and Chris Watson — went out one more time. Eric Random and Oliver Harrap filled the rest of the stage; Benge engineered; the band has been explicit that no further studio work will appear under the Cabs name. So this is the actual goodbye, not the soft tease that usually passes for one. The new arrangements of Sensoria, Crackdown, and Spies in the Wires earn their keep; the wild card is Tinsley Viaduct, a piece of Watson musique concrète that holds its place in the setlist like a song. The CD has been out since April; the vinyl is today's reason to write it up. Dedicated to Richard H. When Tim Kasher (Cursive) was a teenager he caught Elvis Costello on a talk show, claiming, in passing, that he could write an album in a weekend. Thirty-five years later, Kasher took it as a dare. Memorial Day weekend 2025, four days, every song complete in melody and lyric, every finished song played live to his Patreon group as a receipt. Four songs on day one, four on day two, a wall on day three (one song), and a fourth-day surge that produced The Collapse and Don't Hang Up. He decided to keep all twelve. The bigger refusal isn't the writing window; it's that the record is not, and will not be, on Spotify or Apple Music or Tidal. You buy the LP or the CD, or you stream it on Bandcamp. That's the choice on offer. The first reasonable expectation after Pasoori would have been a sequel, and Ali Sethi has politely declined. Room Jhoom is his second studio album, built since 2023 with Priestbird drummer and film composer Gregory Rogove. The original idea was "ragaton" — a bridge between South Asian raga and reggaeton, which on the page sounds like a TED talk and on a record might have stayed there. What survived the writing is more interesting: the reggaeton recedes, woodwind blasts and synth drones take over, and Sethi's Sufi texts end up sitting on a woozy, minimalist pulse rather than a clave. The supporting cast is more revealing than the press release lets on — Adele's bassist Pete Randall, Terry Riley's son Gyan on guitar, Saunder Jurriaans and Danny Bensi (the Causeway / Enemy film-score pair), Eva Lawitts on oud. Less fusion-as-cliché than fusion as breathing together in the same room. Pasoori 那首 viral 之後的 Ali Sethi 沒有按「再來一首」的邏輯出牌。這張是他第二張錄音室專輯,跟 Priestbird 的鼓手 Gregory Rogove(也常給電影做配樂)一起從 2023 年開始磨——一開始的設想是 "ragaton":把 raga 的律動架到 reggaeton 的拍子上,建一條「南亞 × 拉丁」的橋。

Thirteen years between proper LPs is a long time for a band that defined a small but devout subset of British math-rock. The Derby five-piece — two guitars, two basses, one drum kit — got back together to rehearse a Distal tenth-anniversary tour and then bailed on the nostalgia route because, by their own account, the new ideas refused to step aside for the old ones. Tracked in an emptied-out Derby Central Library, a remote barn in Cumbria, the Belper Corn Exchange, and Bromsgrove's Sensound; self-produced; Katie Tavini mastered. They're calling Logbook their most "mellow" record, which here doesn't mean docile so much as woven: the guitars no longer collide as much as they intertwine.
