The conducting is patient — Nelsons does not rush the Trauermarsch into theater — and the orchestra's tone in the third-movement Scherzo is the reason to hear it. The title is his — "the hole in the floor is the everyday, but the fountain is the magic that happens when the life you dreamed about actually becomes the one you're living" — and it doubles as a thesis on what Future Islands have actually been making for two decades. Not the greatest hits package; closer to a band quietly emptying its desk. Stephen Pedersen left Cursive twenty years ago and has run Criteria as a part-time-but-serious vehicle since. SEIZE! is the first record under that banner in five years, recorded over seven winter days at ARC Studios in Omaha with Matt Bayles producing. Pedersen calls it "pristinely heavy rock," and the reference points — Siamese Dream's symphonic guitars, Battles' syncopation, Quicksand's tension — are all visible. Much of the album was written in open C, which turns the guitar into a resonating slab. The title puns: seize as in seize the day, seize as in collapse. Both meanings land. Putting "experimental" in the title is half threat, half receipt: the singles "babygirl" (April 30) and "War Over Land" (May 7) already disclosed where this was going — gospel samples set against industrial percussion, underground rap's structural sense torqued until the structure shows. At this scale the record will reward either close attention or none at all. The middle ground is the only failure mode. Peggy 第六張，25 曲，一人全程寫、混、產。把「實驗」放進標題等於把讀者請進 ring——這名字幾乎是挑釁。

Matteo Mariano's solo project; ROHS!'s eightieth catalog number; an edition of eighty hand-numbered linen-textured CDs. A Spring Diary was written during Italy's first lockdown in 2020, but Mariano insists it is not a pandemic record — he found old photographs of his son taken in 2015 while sorting through drawers in March, and the album is what came out of that retrieval. The four tracks are titled by date: March 15, March 30, April 15, May 1. Andrea Porcu remastered. Quiet, careful, never sentimental. Sophomore record from the Surabaya trio, two years after the warmly received Perak. Di Hotel Malibu is looser than the debut, more conversational, and more openly Indonesian: vowels and humidity present in the mix instead of scrubbed out.
