Sub Pop's signing of the Seattle synth-punk duo Telehealth has a certain elegance to it: the album is conceptually framed as the band's "IPO with angel investors Sub Pop," and the lead single, "Cool Job," wonders aloud whether the gig the protagonist has wanted for years is in fact the cage. Across thirteen tracks — including one titled "[user onboarding sequence]" — Alexander Attitude and Kendra Cox skewer the soft violences of the contemporary office: greenwashing, crypto evangelism, the imperative to be relentlessly upbeat about a job that is paying you barely enough to ignore the dread. The musical vocabulary is XTC by way of YMO, with the cynical edge of early Devo, and the production keeps it tight enough to dance to. If the satire occasionally tips toward exhaustion, that's also the point. Riccio's debut, Whiplash, was framed as a coming-of-age document — bluegrass technique inflected with Americana songwriting, a Berklee-trained voice still figuring out how candid it wanted to be. The follow-up answers that question with arrangements that have shed their politeness: louder guitars, denser drums, a band that pushes her vocals instead of cradling them. The themes are still recognizable — climate dread, fragile relationships, the particular loneliness of a young person watching the future from a porch — but she has stopped softening her conclusions. NPR's World Cafe called her one of the few Americana newcomers willing to "stare directly at pain." Venegas told NPR that Norteña began with homesickness, but the record itself is more ambitious than that suggests. Raised in Tijuana and now scattered between Mexico City and Buenos Aires, she returns here to the accordion-heavy corrido tradition of her border, then loads it with collaborators — Natalia Lafourcade, Yahritza y Su Esencia, the legendary northern band Bronco — and political weight. "Leyendas de Tijuana" reconstructs the Prohibition-era streets; "La Linea" addresses, head-on, the ongoing separation of families at the U.S.-Mexico border. The arrangements are warm, even ceremonial, but the lyrics refuse to let the music drift into postcard mode. Nostalgia, in her hands, becomes a political posture. Teddy Thompson has been making sophisticated, slightly aching pop records for nearly a quarter-century, and every time a new one lands, somebody declares it the best of his career. This is largely because the records are quietly excellent and resemble one another more than they differ. Never Be The Same, his first full-length of original material in five years, is no exception, though David Mansfield's production — restrained, almost transparent — does give the songs more breathing room than recent outings. "So This Is Heartache" is a representative ballad: a British tenor mourning, with a wry shrug, over a band that knows when not to assert itself. If the album doesn't reinvent his vocabulary, it does refine it. The Thompson family business — songs about love, time, and the gentle absurdity of both — continues to be in safe hands. A Gothenburg quintet barely two years old, Sylvie's Head spent 2025 collecting Swedish-press hyperbole and a "Best in Rock" nomination at the Manifest Awards — Sweden's indie Grammys. The debut LP earns the noise. It moves between hard breakbeats, chainsaw guitars, Balearic warmth, and a kind of dub-rock looseness that refuses to settle into a single mood. The closest reference might be the Avalanches if they grew up listening to Psychic TV instead of Madonna. Alan Myson's last record, Timeproof, spread outward — vast vistas of glowing urban skies. Mind Abandon drills downward. Tracks like "Kill Switch" and "Memory Leak" feel like pneumatic equipment, their techno rhythms boring into a thin atmospheric layer. The closest analogue, J. Edward Keyes writes in Bandcamp Daily, is a vocal-less Violator: songs that thrum and pulse but also let strong toplines emerge from the fog. "A Hidden Path" twists a music-box melody above a subterranean groan; "Misted" pulses without losing the melody at its center. Planet Mu's stable of IDM lifers is unusually deep, and this is one of the more visceral entries in years. JWords, one half of the Brooklyn duo H31R and a frequent collaborator with maassai, Nappy Nina, and Semiratruth, has typically let her synthesizers do the talking. On Sound Therapy, she handles vocals on five of the nine tracks — and the result is less a pivot than a quiet expansion. "LUSH" leans into the hypnotic minimalism of Galcher Lustwerk, with JWords intoning "I see you and me / I see me and you" until the line dissolves into mantra. "LoveCrime" and "Change 101" address self-love and stability in language that could read as platitude on paper but feels grounded in the production. Calming as a breathing exercise, propulsive enough to score a flow state — Dash Lewis's two-sentence summary in Bandcamp Daily is hard to improve on. Two important clarifications: this is not the electronic producer Lorn, and the Italian black-metal Lorn — twenty-five years into a quiet career — have made a record that flies upward rather than burrowing down. The synths here are not garnish; they are the architecture. "Gallows" is built around a swooping, crystalline lead that threads its way across the song's length; "Threshold's Tragedy" buries its guitars under organ tones bright enough to feel sacramental. The album's title suggests violence but the music is closer to dark beauty, a vast star-field rather than a battlefield. It belongs in conversation with Alcest and Deafheaven more than with their European peers. I, Voidhanger continues to be one of the more reliable labels working at the edges of metal. 兩個必要澄清:這不是電子製作人 Lorn,而是同名的意大利二人黑金樂團,出道二十五年。這次他們終於把合成器推到吉他前面。Bandcamp Daily 用了"aerodynamic"這個字——別的黑金往下挖,他們往上飛。
